Although suffering a hip pointer in Sunday’s victory over the Minnesota Vikings, the Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner is still expected to start the team’s next game at San Francisco next Monday as the injury is not considered to be serious enough to prevent the quarterback from playing.
Obviously there is another reason for keeping Warner active. The quarterback’s importance to the offense was highlighted again in the game, as he threw for three touchdowns and 285 yards. Missing the previous week’s game because of concussion symptoms and wearing back his Cardinals jersey in time to play last Sunday’s game, Warner did not seem to have any lingering discomfort while playing against the Vikings. So the team may feel it safe to have him play another game.
The Cardinals need a win over the 49ers, who beat them 16-20 in the season opener. By winning next Monday’s game, the Cardinals would also clinch their second consecutive division title.
