Seahawks Coach Mora expects QB Hasselbeck to start Sunday

After seeing the starting quarterback complete his third consecutive practice Friday, the Seattle Seahawks Coach Jim Mora felt more confident that Matt Hasselbeck will be able to start against the Jacksonville Jaguars in his No. 8 Seahawks jersey on Sunday.

“Matt got better every day. He got more comfortable every day,” Mora said. “We’re going to list him as probable … and probable is a pretty good sign that he will play.”

Since he broke a rib on a dive for the goal line Sept. 20 at San Francisco, Hasselbeck has not played a real game yet. And in haste to return to save his 1-3 team, which has lost three straight games, the three-time Pro Bowl passer overdid rehabilitation work on Monday and suffered excruciating pain afterwards. The next day he still worked out with the aid of a couple of high-potency aspirin. He still looked uncomfortable and was constantly twisting and stretching during Wednesday’s practice. Fortunately, on Thursday and Friday, Hasselbeck looked much better and was able to take almost all the first-team plays.

The 34-year-old quarterback seemed eager to play again for his team, saying that it’s time for all players to sacrifice in an effort to save Seattle’s season. And his sacrifice is to cut short recovery time and play at less than full health.
